The field of technical translation is another highly specialised area. But what exactly constitutes a technical translation? Contrary to popular belief, for a translation to be classified as “technical”, it is not sufficient that a text includes specialised terminology. A technical translation concerns itself with texts whose main focus is the application of technology, or whose main subjects are technological in their nature. Technical translators work with documents like user manuals, medical or engineering software documentation, pharmaceutical documents, patents, and safety manuals, just to name a few.
